About Us

FrankWe are situated in the heart of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley between the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. Our farms are nestled among the Shenandoah River, Civil War Battlefields and beautiful rolling countryside.

Dedicated to the preservation of rare breed livestock and purebred dogs, Bayshore Kennel and Farms was founded by J. Frank Baylis in the late sixties. Now owned and operated by J. Frank Baylis and Chris Oldt, partners for the last twenty years, we are honored to have bred and owned some of the top winning animals in history.

Farm

Frank's passion is rare breed livestock and poultry. His involvement spans numerous decades. He and his breeding programs have been instrumental in establishing or preserving specific breeds in this country that were not known or nearing extinction.

He has imported/preserved various breeds such as the Blueface Hexham Leicester Sheep, Karakul Sheep, West African Hair Sheep, Yokohama Chickens, English Longhorn Cattle, Longhair Fainting Goats (now known as Miniature Silky Fainting Goats), and White African Geese. All are currently flourishing in breeding programs today.

At this time, we are focused on the only herd of English Longhorn Cattle (on this continent), Horned Herefords, Fainting/Miniature Silky Fainting Goats, Dorper and West African Hair Sheep, Norwegian Fjord Horses, Dartmoor Ponies, and various breeds of poultry and waterfowl (Naked Neck Turkens, Showgirls, Tufted Geese).

Dogs

ChrisOur involvement in the sport of purebred dogs is far and worldwide. Our prefix is synonymous with top winning dogs in numerous countries. We are very honored to have owned/produced the all time top winning/breed record holder in Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and Chinese Crested (USA).

We have owned and/or bred 22 Number one ranked dogs, Multiple National Specialty Best of Breed Winners, All Breed Best in Show winners, and much loved companions in all four of our breeds. We've also produced/owned champions in the following breeds: Affenpincher, Border Terrier, and Whippets.

As you peruse our new site, you will venture upon our newest endeavor, the Xoloitzcuintle! We've imported top bloodlines from Mexico and are excited about being accepted into the American Kennel Club.

Website

We hope you enjoy visiting our new website. We offer our sincere gratitude and thanks to Richard Lowe and Josephine Large for developing our site and getting us back on the web! If you know us this is no easy endeavor! The site is a work in progress so please check back for updates!

Our website is dedicated to some very special humans and animals who have touched our lives. Maybe (Beezer), our 18 year old Whippet, Aska, our dysplastic Icelandic Sheepdog, No No Noel, our blind rescue mini longhaired Dachsund, Lizzy Borden (le Chat), Stella (mom), the 84 year old backbone of our operation, and all of our friends throughout the world. You know who you are.

Enjoy!

Frank and Chris
